  1. Be calm: Staff will take their signal from you and follow your lead

  2. Words matter: Speak in the affirmative with words of optimism and hope

  3. Communicate: Create consistent channels to communicate the plan

  4. Be present: Engage with front line staff and provide accurate information

  5. Listen: Remember, it is not about you

  6. Engage others: Tap into talents of others on your team and share the journey

  7. Be prepared: Stay up to date with current information

  8. Self-care: Get adequate rest, schedule time for reflection and self care

  9. Show gratitude: Be generous with appreciation and sparing with criticism

  10. Speak the truth: Give honest feedback to those making policy decisions
